If you're looking for a special cake for your wedding, look no further than this list of bakeries in the Metro Detroit area.

Mrs. Maddox Cakes was started in 1928 by Pearl Maddox, and was later taken over by her son and his family. Tim Shabberly, formerly a dishwasher, who was hired in 1973, was offered the bakery in 1996, and he moved it to Farmington Hills. Mrs. Maddox's makes cookies, tea sandwiches and other delicacies, including different varieties of cakes (wedding, holiday, occasion, etc.). Drop-bys are fine for wedding consultations and to try samples, but Mrs. Maddox's asks that you arrive at least an hour before closing time. Mrs. Maddox Cakes is located on Orchard Lake Road near 10 Mile.

Garden City Cake Shoppe has been in business for over 50 years. Cakes here are made fresh daily, and the shop sells everything from wedding cakes to cupcakes. The shop also sells supplies to decorate your own cakes at home. Garden City features pastries such as eclairs, brownies, strudel and fruit turnovers. The business can be found in Garden City near the Westland border.

Baked Impressions opened in 2009 and has been making creative cakes since, whether it be for a wedding, bar/bat mitzvah or communion. Originally named Olga's Creations by its owner, Olga Lampcov, the business moved to West Bloomfield in September 2011 and changed its name to Baked Impressions. Consultations are free, and afterwards, Baked Impressions will give you a personalized pricing quote for your cake. The shop offers such interesting flavors as Almond Joy (chocolate supreme cake, coconut custard, crushed almonds), Hummingbird (banana-pineapple and walnut cake, cream cheese buttercream) and more.

Reen's Cakes, in business for over 19 years, is known by locals as being the best place for cakes in Detroit. Reen's has all types of cakes, including wedding, and it also sells half-cakes, pies and mini cakes, if you're looking for something smaller. The shop doesn't have a website but you can call it to reserve your cake; it has everything from red velvet and German chocolate to chocolate/chocolate cake.

Josef's is known for its European-style pastries, and it brings its European flair to its wedding cakes as well. Free samples await as soon as you enter the shop, sometimes coffee cake or stollen, and Josef's has a variety of pastries and sweets. The shop asks that you make a consultation appointment before ordering your cake, and you can contact Josef's via phone or online. Josef's opened in 1971 and its owners, Anthony and Jimmy Cavallo, are originally from Montreal; the bakery won the "Best of the Best" Bakery Award from The Detroit News in 2007 and made the The Knot's 2008 Best of Weddings list. It also was named Best Bakery in Michigan in 2002 by AAA Michigan Living Magazine.
