Time to start blogging.
For the past couple of weeks, I've been holding this space by putting in copies of some of the stories that we've had on the air. But, what I really want to do here, is find a way to get out some stories that wouldn't exactly work on the air.
I can also use this site for some "back stories" the things that go on behind the scenes.
It's also a great place to put out information on things that are coming up on the auto beat, and maybe solicit some story suggestions.
I'll try to post photos and videos as possible.
So, my plan now is to have a different post each day, and keep adding to it, as events warrant. We'll probably be a little "thin" on material as we gear up, and it is the "dog days of August." But, as we get into the fall, I hope to get this rolling.
Feel free to comment. What you post goes not only to me, but to our webmaster. If you want to send me a note. My email is jdgilbert@cbs.com.

IPO Watch
For the past several weeks, each day somebody has reported that this is the day that GM will file the paperwork for its initial public offering of stock. Eventually, somebody's going to be right.
It reminds me of the hypocondirac (sp?) who put on his grave, "See I told you I was sick."
But when the paperwork is filed, it will have a lot of information about GM's plans going forward, and some of the risks. It'll also give us all some feel for what to expect from the company going forward.
I've been told by people at GM that this is a very complex form to put together, and while they may intend to file it on a given day, they often need to make changes prompted by GM attorneys or the board of directors.

Woodward Dream Cruise
There are still tickets available, I'm told for Bill Ford's appearance at our August 20th Dream Cruise Business Breakfast. John McElroy and I will moderate, but it's really an opportunity for the audience to ask questions of Mr. Ford.
Full details at wwj.com.
And on Dream Cruise morning, I'll be working early, starting at 5 AM. I'm ususally in the 11 Mile-Woodward area. There are people out there that early, and the place is hopping by 8 AM.
The early morning is a great time to see the classic cruisers without big crowds.
Just to show how things have changed with the cruise. I remember GM using the event to show off sporty vehicles. Friday night they plan a parade of Chevy Volt's.
