Arraignment In The Carjacking Of 86-Year-Old Detroit Man

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 20-year-old Detroit man has been charged in the carjacking of an 86-year-old World War II vet at a Detroit gas station.

We get more from WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher reports that Paris Gomillion took off with the car and left Aaron Brantley with a broken leg.

Brantley crawled toward the gas station to get help and was ignored by several people passing by.

36th District Court magistrate Sydney Barthwell says it's a shocking crime.

"Went up against a gentleman, 86-years-old, which in and of itself is a terrible thing," said Barthwell.

"The crime which you are alleged to have committed, is a shocking crime and has shaken the foundations of the community," added Barthwell.

Barthwell entered a not guilty plea for Gomillion and set bond at $500,000 dollars cash surety.

The beating and eventual carjacking of the WWII veteran was caught on a surveillance camera which led to outrage in the community and a call for more security at gas stations in the city of Detroit.
