Anti-Aging Epic Fail
Vicki Briganti – WWJ-TV Writer / Producer / Editor
I saw a story on the news about Avon's Anew Ultimate Gold Emulsion night cream. If you use it on your face for 14 days, you can look up to five years younger. What woman wouldn't want to look younger?
A group of Detroiters, men and women, agreed to try the product for 14 days with a local plastic surgeon helping to gauge results. Only one woman gave the product thumbs down. She developed a rash. I don't think I have sensitive skin, so I went online to shop.avon.com and, low and behold, they were having a special. Anti-aging and value? I'm sold. I ordered two jars, taxes plus free shipping, for $48.76.
Day by Day Results
The steps of how your skin should respond are listed on the side of the box. Here are my results:
Day 1 – While the cream is a little greasy, my skin feels smoother and has a glow.
Day 2 – I notice the product has a bad smell I hadn't noticed the night before. I feel nauseous and develop a headache.
Day 3 – Why was there a Day 3???
Day 3 – I use less on my face and try to soldier on for the sake of science.
Day 4 – Even using less, it still smells bad and makes me feel sick. I deem the anti-aging experiment an epic fail and wipe the cream off my face.
Day 5 – I call the 1-800 number and request a full refund.
No Spring Chicken
I know my Grandma loves Avon and has used their other products her entire life. I consider giving her the second unopened jar as a gift, but wonder if the smell alone might kill her. Does she really need to pretend to be fewer than her well-earned 92 years? No. Back it goes. Now I get to stand in line at the post office and pay for the return shipping, which might kill me.
Oh, well. I've decided I'm better off looking old than dying young.
