Dad Allows 9-Year-Old Son To Be Designated Driver
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - For the second time this month, authorities have charged a father with allowing his 9-year-old child to be a designated driver.
The Florida Highway Patrol says 31-year-old Nathan Sikkenga told troopers after a crash Saturday in Orlando that he and his wife had been drinking, so they had their 9-year-old son drive their van.
Sikkenga was charged with child endangerment.
On Oct. 8, police say a Detroit-area man had his 9-year-old daughter drive him to the store because he had been drinking. That dad has been charged with child abuse and can't have any contact with his daughter.
