A Wise Man Once Said Wings Would Win This Series ... Me!
Detroit— A traffic cop held out his hand outside Joe Louis Arena trying to stop this red-and-white tsunami that poured from the building as excited Red Wings fans celebrated their team's 3-1 victory over San Jose on Wednesday night.
As he held his hand in the air, another police officer walked up, slapped his hand and the two men embraced.
"Man I am rooting so hard for this team," one officer said.
They both laughed and enjoyed the moment.
The officer put his hand down and fans rushed past them, chanting "Let's go Red Wings" and "We want the Cup.
Fans blew horns, waved pompons and danced in the streets. Detroit looked like a giant carnival as the impossible grew closer. I told a number of you that the Wings would not lose this series — even when they were down 3-0.
Many scoffed and laughed and filled my e-mail with unsavory remarks. I understand your feeling because you did not have the feeling. Teams do not rebound from 3-0 deficits to win very often. It has only happened three times in hockey history.
Well here we go again.
