A Different Kind of Summer Camp
Summer camp is a tradition for many young people. But the University of Detroit-Mercy is offering camp's that exercise young people's brains—and are fun at the same time.
The camps range from Architectural Engineering to robotics. The goal is the show young people that engineering can be a rewarding career.
"Our country really needs engineers today in order to maintain our technological position in this economy," says Dr. Leo Hanifan, dean of the College of Engineering and Science. "I hope a lot of young people jump on board."
While the summer is half over, Hanifan says some of their remaining camps do have openings.
He says young people who want a career in engineering, will find openings as well.
"With the auto industry facing challenges in recent years, parents teachers and students think that there's not jobs in engineering," said Hanifan. "In fact, the auto industry is in short supply of engineers right now."
