4-8 More Inches Of Snow, Plus Icy Rain On The Way
DETROIT (WWJ) - As if these brutally cold temperatures aren't wintry enough — forecasters are calling for more snow along with some ice on the way.
WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thomson says gusty winds Thursday will keep RealFeel temps at around 10 to 20 below zero during the day with an actual low of 2 degrees in Detroit overnight; dropping as low as 0 degrees in some suburbs.
Friday afternoon is when the snow arrives, maybe in time to make for a slick afternoon commute.
"Snow will continue tomorrow night into Saturday morning, before mixing with or changing to sleet or freezing rain," Thomson said. "We're predicting snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches before that changeover — the highest amounts likely north of Detroit — and there could be a think layer of some ice on top of it."
Thompson said metro Detroit could see a little bit of plain rain or drizzle as temperatures sneak above freezing on Saturday. But the slight reprieve won't last long, with highs turning much colder again for Sunday into next week.
Here's the detailed forecast through the weekend:
Thursday: Sunny to partly cloudy, brisk and bitterly cold. High 16F. Winds W at 10 to 20 mph.
Thursday Night: Partly cloudy in the evening; overcast overnight. Low 6F. Winds WSW at 10 to 15 mph.
