EBay Motors Visits Motor City

SOUTHFIELD -- More and more people are using their phones to buy cars.

That was the word Tuesday from Famous Rhodes, senior director of EBay Motors, who visited the Detroit area to meet with media and clients and talk about the fast-growing business of the online giant.

Rhodes said eBay Motors' mobile device app is now responsible for about 2,500 auto sales a week -- and 130,000 auto parts sales.

Since its inception 12 years ago, eBay Motors has been responsible for the sale of 4.4 million new and used vehicles and 242 million auto parts and accessories orders.

Rhodes is a former Detroit-area resident. He was a former vice president of the pioneering auto sales site Stoneage.com, which later became Car.com before selling to Autobytel.com.
