13-Year-Old Boy Charged In Fatal Shooting Of 14-Year-Old Boy Behind Vacant Home In Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A 13-year-old Detroit boy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy on the city's east side.

He's was scheduled for a hearing in juvenile court on Wednesday where's he also being charged with careless discharge of a weapon causing death and felony firearm.

Police said the boy was with 14-year-old Frederick Austin and three other teens in a shed behind a vacant home in the 5300 block of Radnor Street near Warren and Mack Ave. at around 7:40 p.m. Tuesday, when he allegedly picked up the gun and discharged it.

Austin was struck by a single bullet and killed, according to police.

Investigators are still trying to determine if the shooting was an accident or intentional. Early reports said the teens had been "playing with" the gun.

The weapon was recovered by police at the scene. It's still unclear where the teens got it.

The name of the teen in custody has not been released due to his age.
