The Romeo Engineering and Technology Center has officially opened a 20-kilowatt solar generating system. The installation was funded by a Michigan Renewable Schools Program grant applied for by the district's construction trades teacher, Craig Bryant. The system will produce power which will be tied into the school as well as a house the district's construction trades class builds every year. Students will be able to learn about solar energy, monitor the power it produces, monitor the school's usage, and much more.

(NYSE: F) are working with the same computed tomography scanners that police and hospitals use to improve vehicle quality. Troy-based Altair Engineering Inc. said Thursday that an Iowa utility had used one of its newest products to quickly analyze 10 years of customer care and billing data. Altair is now reselling HiQube data analytics software from Novi-based Digital Commerce Technologies Inc. Iowa's Cedar Falls Utilities is using HiQube to give it far deeper insight into consumer pricing, purchasing and trends across all utility service offerings.
Troy-based Altair Engineering Inc. said Thursday that HyperWorks users will soon have access to MindManager information mapping software through the HyperWorks Partner alliance. The deal to offer Mindjet's MindManager software is the latest addition to the HWPA, at www.hyperworksalliance.com, which offers software at no incremental cost using customers' previously acquired HyperWorks Units.

Two University of Michigan professors contributed to a White House report this week that calls for the United States to craft a government-wide federal energy policy and update it regularly with strategic reviews every four years. Comerica Bank's Michigan Economic Activity Index fell two points in October, returning to a level of 87 for the third time in the last four months. October's level is up 16 points, or 23 percent, above the cycle low of 71 reached in July 2009.
