Waterton Canyon Sees A Busy Weekend After Re-Opening
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - After a closure that lasted more than 18 months, visitors returned over the weekend to Waterton Canyon.
Stephen Johnson of Centennial was among those who ventured into the canyon on Sunday. He captured the image below of a fly fisherman.
He wrote: "Lots and lots of people hiking, jogging, bicycling, horseback riding and fly fishing today. Also, there was a herd of Mountain Sheep up inside the canyon."
Denver Water re-opened the area for recreational use late last week. It was closed in the summer of 2010 because of a massive dredging project at the Strontia Springs Reservoir and the re-opening was delayed by several months.
The $29 million project was needed because the reservoir was filled with sediment and debris from wildfires and heavy rains.
