Trail Ridge Road Remains Closed Due To Snow, Ice

ROCKY MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK, Colo. (CBS4)- Trail Ridge Road remained closed Monday morning after weekend snow. Crews are trying to clear the deep drifted snow and icy conditions.

Trail Ridge Road in #RMNP remains temporarily closed this morning due to deep drifted snow & ice. Current closures: Rainbow Curve on east side, 12 mi from east entrances, & Colorado River Trailhead on west side, 10 mi from Grand Lake Entrance. There is no estimated time on when the road will reopen.

Trail Ridge Rd remains closed. Rangers & plows had 1-5ft drifts this weekend & overnight temps in the 20s. Yesterday, plows got to Lava Cliffs (12,080' elev) but had to turn around in 50 mph winds, heavy snow & major drifting & had to plow their way back down to Forest Canyon. pic.twitter.com/vsVf3Jf1Xx

Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is the highest continuous paved road in the United States - reaching 12,183 feet in elevation.

The Alpine Visitor Center and Trail Ridge Store (elevation 11,796 feet) were still buried almost up to their roofs on May 31.
