Straight Creek Fire: Interstate 70 Fully Reopens In Summit County As Firefight Continues
SILVERTHORNE, Colo. (CBS4) - A wildfire in Summit County that led to a partial closure of Interstate 70 late Thursday is burning in the area between Tenderfoot Mountain and the interstate. The battle against the Straight Creek Fire resulted in a closure of I-70's eastbound lanes near Silverthorne and Dillon.
Officials said Thursday night there were no immediate threats to structures.
Three engine crews, two heavy helicopters and a light helicopter were working the fire on Friday afternoon.
The fire is estimated to be between 15 and 20 acres and is burning in live and dead spruce and lodgepole pine on the White River National Forest. It was 30% contained on Friday evening.
So far it's not clear how the fire started.
On Friday, the Town of Frisco enacted Stage 1 fire restrictions effective immediately in coordination with the towns of Dillon and Silverthorne. The fire danger moved to "very high" on June 10.
"Frisco, Dillon, and Silverthorne are all located in the I70 corridor where significant fire activity has been seen over the past 24 hours. We believe that it is vital to the health and safety of our community that we take a conservative approach and act now before we see more wildfire activity," stated Frisco Mayor Hunter Mortensen.
