State Treasurer Walker Stapleton Demands Pension Information
DENVER (AP) - Colorado Treasurer Walker Stapleton filed a lawsuit against the state's pension fund board in an effort to get financial information about workers' benefits.
The state Attorney General's office filed the lawsuit on Stapleton's behalf on Monday. Stapleton says the information he is seeking will help him to assess the health of the state pension's program.
Stapleton sits on the board that manages Colorado's $39 billion pension fund for state workers, known as the Public Employees Retirement Association. The group covers more than 450,000 state and local government workers.
Stapleton is seeking information about the top 20 percent of the pension's beneficiaries and their annual retirement benefit.
The pension board denied Stapleton's request in August, saying the information is confidential.
