SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A snowboarder had to be rescued after he fell 100 feet on the south side of Quandary Peak on Saturday. Summit County Rescue Group responded to the call.
They say the snowboarder called 911 near the Blue Lakes dam. His snowboard was about 200 vertical feet above him, rescuers say.
They're not sure if he fell while coming down the mountain or hiked up from Blue Lakes Road.
Fifteen rescuers and Flight for Life responded. The snowboarder was taken to a medical facility in unknown condition.
Summit County Rescue Group was called out to rescue an injured snowboarder in the Quandary Peak area today. The rescue subject called 911 from his cell phone and said he had fallen about 100 feet from cliffs on the south side of Quandary, near the Blue Lakes dam. Fifteen rescuers were fielded and found him just above the road to Blue Lakes. His snowboard was approximately 200 vertical feet above him, but it was not clear whether he had fallen while descending from the peak or had hiked up from Blue Lakes road. Flight for Life's Frisco-based helicopter was able to land on the road below Blue Lakes dam and snowmobilers from SCRG loaded the patient for transport to a medical facility.
