Occupy Denver Protests Much Smaller This Weekend

DENVER (CBS4)- The Occupy Denver movement continued through the streets of downtown Denver Saturday afternoon, but with a significantly smaller crowd than last weekend.

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered for speeches in Civic Center Park and they marched to the Federal Reserve, chanting and carrying signs. Police said the crowd was peaceful in its protest.

The cost to the City of Denver for the Occupy Denver protests and activities from last week is approximately $365,000.

The Denver Safety Manager's Office said that includes costs incurred by the Denver Police and Sheriff Departments.

That amount does not include costs covered by the state or the Colorado State Patrol, which is expected to release its overtime costs next week.

Nearly 50 people have been arrested since Oct. 14. Most of them were arrested for refusing to leave the park after it was closed.

Protesters in Denver have been avoiding the no-camping ban by sleeping on the sidewalk.
