Silverton Saloon Destroyed In Fire

SILVERTON, Colo. (CBS4)- Firefighters had a tough time tackling a fire burning in downtown Silverton Wednesday. The fire started at about 7:30 a.m. in the Pride of the West saloon, 1300 block of historic Greene Street.

The fire was still burning four hours later and was threatening to adjoining businesses, the Silverton Brewery and Adelaide's Antiques. Both businesses were full of smoke and threatened by fire.

The saloon is located in the historic Billy Cole Building which was built in 1901. The fire apparently started in the kitchen of the saloon and moved to the front of the building. Several apartments are located in the second story above the bar. Those were empty when the fire started.

No one was hurt in the fire. It is unclear exactly what started the fire. Firefighters remain on scene Wednesday afternoon.
