Rocky Mountain National Park Lifts Total Fire Ban

ESTES PARK, Colo. (AP) — Fire restrictions are being eased at Rocky Mountain National Park and some forest lands because of recent rainfall.

The park banned all campfires last month because of the wildfire threat. Officials announced Thursday that campfires are again permitted at campgrounds, some backcountry campsites and designated picnic areas.

The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland also relaxed restrictions Thursday but shooting is still banned.

A fire ban will be lifted Friday for higher elevations in the San Juan National Forest. Restrictions will remain for lower elevations, which have gotten less moisture.

Jefferson, Arapahoe and Pueblo counties and the city of Aurora have also eased restrictions. Garfield and Pitkin counties and the White River National Forest are keeping stronger rules since the lifting of the statewide fire ban.
