Regents Vote To Eliminate CU's Journalism School

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) -- Regents at the University of Colorado have voted to discontinue the journalism program on the Boulder campus.

The Daily Camera reported Thursday that regents voted 5-4 to close CU's School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

CU President Bruce Benson, the journalism school's advisory board and a committee have all recommended the school be shut down.

Regents who voted for the closure argued the school has failed to adapt to the changing media landscape.

Regents who voted against the closure said there is still a high demand for a journalism education. They say they can't close the school without a plan for future journalism students.

A separate exploratory panel has recommended a new program for information and communication technology.

Current journalism students will still be able to complete their degrees.
