PUC Rejects Trinchera Ranch In Power Line Dispute
DENVER (AP) - Colorado regulators say they won't reconsider their finding that two utilities have shown the need for a new power line in south-central Colorado.
Trinchera Ranch owner Louis Bacon has questioned the need for Xcel Energy Inc. and Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association Inc. to build the line, which would cross part of the billionaire's land.
The Colorado Public Utilities Commission decided Friday not to rehear the matter. Trinchera said it would challenge the decision in court.
Utility officials contend the line would improve transmission reliability and deliver renewable energy. But Trinchera spokesman Cody Wertz says there hasn't been enough study of cheaper alternatives, and Xcel has backed off some of its solar energy plans.
Other federal and local approvals are still needed for the line to proceed.
