Power Companies Continue Fight For Power Line

DENVER (AP) -- Power companies serving the San Luis Valley say they plan to press ahead after Xcel Energy officials said they're considering abandoning a controversial $180-million power line into the valley.

Tri-State and the San Luis Valley Rural Electric Cooperative say they will push forward so they can deliver power through southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.

Xcel tells the Denver Post its revised plan is based on forecasts for weak economic growth, reduced energy use because of energy-efficiency measures and uncertainty of incentives for new renewable energy projects.
