Police Search For Suspects Who Shot & Killed 2 People
DENVER (CBS4)- Police in Denver are investigating a shooting in northeast Denver that has left two people dead and two others injured.
The shooting happened near Bruce Randolph Avenue and York at the York Market after a hold-up alarm sounded. A total of four people were shot, two were killed and two others were wounded.
The shooting happened on the sidewalk just steps from local businesses. One man died on the sidewalk, the other shooting victim died a short distance later in a nearby store.
"I heard what sounded like firecrackers; yelling, running down street, knew there was something more to it," resident Spencer Cadwell said.
One man died immediately. Another made it into a nearby store before he succumbed to his injuries. The other two were taken to a nearby hospital and are expected to survive.
Bryce King arrived at the scene shortly after and recognized his friend among the dead.
"I just felt like a piece of me is missing; blood couldn't have made us any closer. He was like my brother, for sure," King said.
He and other neighbors are shaken by the repeated acts of violence. A store clerk at a market in the same shopping center was shot earlier this month. He is still recovering in the hospital. Police aren't saying if the crimes are connected or are gang-related. But neighbors hope the crime spree is over.
"I just don't understand why this stuff keeps happening. I don't know what it's going to take for us to learn that we don't have to shoot or fight. We can just talk things out," King said.
Traffic was rerouted at Bruce Randolph and Josephine while police investigated the shooting.
Police are looking for two suspects in the shooting who ran away after the shooting. They only have a vague description of the suspects, which is that both are male and believed to be black.
Officers are interviewing witnesses to try to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. They said there were a lot of people who witnessed the shooting in the busy marketplace.
"There were quite a few people that were out. Officers will contact those individuals and getting statements from them. Hopefully someone will have something to add to this investigation that could be very helpful to us," said Denver Police Detective John White.
They are also checking with neighboring businesses to see if surveillance video is available of the shooting that may lead them to the suspects.
Police are trying to determine if the shooting is gang related.
