Osweiler Pulled For Manning After 5 Broncos Turnovers, Denver Leads San Diego 14-13 After 3rd Qtr.
DENVER (CBS4/The Sports Xchange) - Peyton Manning took over for Brock Osweiler as the Broncos' offensive woes continued in the second half. But it was C.J. Anderson who finally helped spark the Broncos' offense and Denver leads San Diego 14-13 after three quarters of play.
After turning the ball over four times in the first half the Broncos once again turned the ball over on their first possession of the second half after C.J. Anderson fumbled the ball. It was only Anderson's second fumble of the season but his second in the last two games. That led to a Phillip Rivers to Antonio Gates touchdown pass to give the Chargers a 13-7 lead.
Head coach Gary Kubiak then pulled Osweiler for Manning to try to get something going offensively.
On Manning's first drive of the game Anderson tried to redeem himself for his fumble and busted off a 27-yard run with just over 6 minutes left in the quarter. After a Chargers neutral zone infraction the Broncos got the ball in the red zone. It was the first time in the Broncos took a snap inside the 20 all game. Anderson then ripped off another 18-yard run to get the ball inside the 1-yard line. On the next play Anderson took the ball into the end zone to make it 14-13.
Even if the Broncos win Manning still had to start the game for it to be considered a win for Manning who is tied with Brett Favre for the most wins by a quarterback in NFL history. So that record still stands as is.
Darian Stewart, who pulled his hamstring in the first quarter, has been ruled out for the remainder of the game.
