Oh, Baby! 13-Pound Girl Born In Southern Colorado
DENVER (CBS4) - Mia Yasmin Hernandez greeted the world in a big way Monday.
Big, as in 13 pounds, to be specific.
She was born in Alamosa in the San Luis Valley area in southern Colorado and flown to Children's Hospital in Denver for special care in the neonatal intensive care unit. Hernandez was having problems breathing and had low glucose levels.
The weight was a surprise to the family and the nurse who weighed her.
"She's like come here run, and I went and I'm like what happened. She's like, check this out... and I checked. She's 13 pounds, 13 ounces."
Hernandez is expected to be in hospital for a few more days. Her mother Alisha is doing well.
Also in Garcia's immediate family is Francisco Garcia, her father, and four older sisters.
