Moreno Blog: 'I Wish Mom & Dad Were Out Of My Head And On My Feet'

By Britt Moreno

Dad likes to say "true character is the way you behave when no one is watching". If this holds true, my character is flawed! I've learned this week if no one is holding me accountable to run (but myself) I want to slack!

Yesterday for example I had a "stop and go" run. It was hot. I was sleepy and it was so easy to stop and walk. If the word "RUNNING" were my jog route, I would start off peppy and at a good clip on the "R", slow down a bit on the "UN", perhaps stop on the "NIN" and pick up the pace in a desperate attempt to finish out the "G" strong. Right now I want to crawl off this end-of-the-sentence ellipse I'm so demoralized...

I would love to get to a point where I can run consistently. I want to learn how to stay consistent and keep up a good rhythm. Part of my problem is being tired. I don't usually complain to people about being tired, but my mom is free game.  I'm usually about half way through my belly aching monologue before she interjects with "suck it up" and manage". It can be a little harsh to hear, but it is also a big source of motivation. She's right! I need to have more finesse in handling my tiredness and staying motivated. It never feels good waking up at 2:30am, but I love my job, can't picture life without it, so I need to "manage" and rest more to run better.

I'd like to learn how to pace myself. Maybe then I can run like mom and dad are watching.
