Modest Vaccine Effort Signed Into Law In Colorado
DENVER (AP) - A modest attempt to boost Colorado vaccination rates has been signed into law.
Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper signed the new law Wednesday. The measure requires schools and day care centers to disclose vaccination rates.
The bill was dramatically watered down amid opposition. The original proposal would have made it harder for Colorado parents to opt out of vaccinating their children.
Colorado is among a handful of states that allow parents to sign "personal belief" exemptions from required immunizations. Last school year Colorado had the 6th-highest rate of immunization exemption in the U.S. at 4.3 percent.
