Kansas Oust CU Women From Big 12 Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Carolyn Davis came through with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds Tuesday to boost Kansas to a 71-45 victory over Colorado in the opening game of the Big 12 women's tournament, sending the Jayhawks to a quarterfinal match with No. 1 seed Baylor.

Davis, named to the coaches' All-Big 12 team, controlled play in the lane as the eighth-seeded Jayhawks (20-11) broke away in the second half for their third win this season over Colorado (13-18).

All-Big 12 performer Brittany Spears led the ninth-seeded Buffaloes with 21 points and passed Lisa Van Goor as Colorado's all-time leading scorer. Spears finished her career with 2,075 points. It was Colorado's last appearance in the Big 12, as the Buffaloes are moving to the Pac-10 next year.

Monica Engelman led the Jayhawks in scoring with 17 points.
