FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - An argument escalated into a fatal stabbing Monday at an apartment complex in Fort Collins.
David Matthew Strunk, 48, is accused of first-degree murder in the death of Duane L. Gardner, 50.
Neighbors say there was shouting in a garden level apartment between the two men and an unnamed woman.
"I heard another man's voice say 'stop threatening her,'" said Jeremy Keltner.
"I heard one male say 'I just stabbed him, I just stabbed him. Oh my god.," he said.
Keltner said he saw Strunk covered in blood holding Gardner in the parking lot. Keltner tried to give first aid after calling 911. Strunk retreated to the apartment and allegedly considered fleeing the scene.
"He kept pacing in the apartment saying, 'We got to go, we got to go.' It seemed like he was on drugs. It's hard to tell after someone had just murdered someone," said Keltner.
Strunk surrendered to police just feet from the victim in the parking lot. He's expected to be charged with first-degree murder.
