Wildfire Near Canon City Grows To 60 Acres
CANON CITY, Colo. (CBS4) - A fire in Phantom Canyon in Fremont County blew up Friday morning and is now burning on 60 acres.
A total of 24 firefighters are now building a fire line.
Officials have requested a hot shot crew.
It's believed lightning sparked the fire on Monday.
This is what the weather conditions looked like in the area around the fire at 1 p.m.
"Temperatures are warm and humidity is low. That is not what we want to see around an active fire," said CBS4 Meteorologist Chris Spears.
Winds were primarily gusting in the 15 to 30 mph range around the fire.
"A weather system is moving across the state today with scattered showers and storms, but sadly, not much will reach the area where this fire is burning," said Spears.
Most of the wet weather was expected to stay in northeast and east-central Colorado.
