Fire Crews Work On Platte River Fire In Pike National Forest
SEDALIA, Colo. (AP) - A 5 acre wildfire broke out in warm, windy weather in the Pike National Forest Friday afternoon but crews said after a few hours that they were not calling in additional crews.
The fire was reported Friday just after 1 p.m. in grassy terrain near the Jefferson County-Douglas County line, about 35 miles southwest of Denver. The fire is about 15 miles from the scene of the Lower North Fork Fire that scorched 6 square miles and killed three people.
The sheriff's department says no evacuations were ordered for fire. No injuries or structure damage was reported.
Sheriff's spokesman Mark Techmeyer says the cause appears to be a downed power line.
U.S. Forest Service and Jefferson County firefighters were on the scene. Forest Service spokesman Steve Segin said firefighters requested an aerial tanker but it was too windy to fly.
