Family Of Hit & Run Victim Searching For Answers 1 Year Later

DENVER (CBS4) - The family of a North Denver woman killed in a hit-and-run crime is still hoping nearly a year afterwards that someone with information about the case will come forward.

Nadine Chavez, 53, was behind her home in an alley between Fillmore and Milwaukee streets on Dec. 9, 2014, when she was struck and killed and the driver took off.

Renee Chavez told CBS4 this week life has been hard since her mother's death. She said she and her family members check in with police every week for updates in the investigation.

"We don't know exactly what happened that night. We just know that we lost our mother, and it was sudden," Renee said.

Police initially released a vague description of a truck they believe was involved.

There have been few new leads in the investigation since then, and Renee said she is fearful her family will never get the answers they are looking for.

"We need to know who did this in order to get that closure," she said.

Rene said it's the belief that the person who fled will be brought to justice that carries them through. She also said she has a message for the person responsible.

"I think I can find it in my heart to forgive now if you turn yourself in."

The truck that may have been involved in the crime was described as a dark grey, possibly primer colored Ford F150 truck. It may have a bumper guard and some sort of caging on the back window. Anyone who might know the location of that truck is asked to contact Denver police.
