Family, Friends Remember Murder Victim
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- Family and friends gathered to remember a young woman who was found shot to death din her apartment last weekend. Her husband has been named a person of interest in her murder.
Ashley Ross Draper was found dead inside her apartment on Memphis Way on Saturday.
Police said her husband, James Anthony Draper, is a person of interest in her death. Officers say he is also responsible for a violent crime spree the next day.
Dozens of people gathered for the emotional night on Wednesday to remember Ashley, 29. They shared memories of the woman they say was taken from this world too soon.
"She was loved by many," said one person at the vigil.
"She's watching, each and every one of you, with a smile on her face," said Ashley's father.
Ashley's father held back tears as he spoke to the crowd of people gathered outside her apartment on Memphis Way.
"I'm truly at a loss for words right now. But I love each and every one of you. I may not even know you... but I love just the fact that you came here to honor my child," he said.
A GoFundMe page has been established to help Ashley's family now raise the two children she leaves behind, ages 10 and 2.
Draper, 33, was arrested the day after Ashley's murder. Police say he started a crime spree with a carjacking that included shots fired at innocent bystanders and leading police on a wild chase through Aurora and Denver.
He appeared in court on Wednesday and faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated robbery. He has not been charged in Ashley's murder.
