Downtown Denver's Grand Illumination Takes Place At Union Station

DENVER (CBS4) - The Grand Illumination of downtown Denver for the holidays took place Friday night. CBS4's Dave Aguilera was at Union Station leading the countdown before the historic building was lit up.

"Union Station, a year ago when it opened back up, has really been a catalyst for change in the neighborhood," said Ryan King, executive director of the Lodo District.

The lighting came at a sad time for Colorado -- several people were killed on Friday in an attack at Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs. Union Station officials sent a tweet out saying: "Though we were happy to light the lights tonight, our hearts are heavy with the rest of our Colorado Springs family."

Grand Illumination at Union Station ran from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
