Denver Police Shakeup Looms

DENVER (CBS4)- CBS4 has learned Denver Police Chief Robert White has ordered more than a dozen of his top commanders and deputy chiefs to a meeting Monday morning and DPD sources say a shakeup of those top administrators is expected next week.

Multiple sources say Commanders are to meet with the Chief Monday at 9am and that demotions and promotions are expected at the top level some time after the meeting.

"The Chief has always said complacency is not acceptable," said Commander Matt Murray, a spokesman for White. "He intends to talk to his executive command staff about this."

Murray declined to confirm the CBS4 report that there would be demotions or promotions of current commanders.

However, in a podcast this month, White said "I believe in life change is inevitable. Change is tough."

He also said we "need to rattle the cage a little bit... we need to just kind of renew the energy and keep the energy level up."

White said the sweeping changes would be "in the best interest of the department."
