Denver Officers Continue Work Of Slain Colleague

DENVER (AP) - Colleagues of a Denver police officer shot while trying to break up a fight are continuing some unfinished work for her.

Officer Celena Hollis planned to have Denver's Black Police Officers Organization host a bone marrow drive to increase the number of African-American donors. The organization will hold the drive in her honor on Friday.

She wanted to find more donors after hearing about a Colorado Army National Guard member in need of a live-saving marrow or stem cell transplant.

Hollis was killed on June 24 while trying to break up a fight following a jazz concert at Denver's City Park. Twenty-one-year-old Rollin Olliver is accused of firing multiple rounds during the altercation and one of his shots allegedly hit Hollis, also a former Detroit police officer, in the head.
