Denver City Councilwoman Carla Madison Loses Battle With Cancer
DENVER (CBS4)- The Denver City Council has lost one of its members to cancer. District 8 Councilwoman Carla Madison died on Tuesday. She was elected to her post in June 2007.
Last year, Madison talked to CBS4 about being an advocate for early detection.
"It's so important for people you know to go get checked and if you have any history, make sure you get checked early because you could avoid everything I've been through," said Madison in 2010.
Plans for services are pending. Details will be posted on the Denver City Council website.
The Denver City Council calls Madison one of its most vibrant members. She was known for her vibrant outlook on life.
Denver Mayor Guillermo (Bill) Vidal released these thoughts in a statement, "Carla was a dear friend who always had a warm smile and a kind word to share, and in turn, her positive energy and attitude brought happiness to others. She was a true and tireless champion for the many and diverse issues brought forward by her constituents in Council District 8, as well as a steadfast supporter of city-wide economic development and an outspoken advocate for the arts. Never too busy to take a moment to discuss an issue or a concern, Carla was known for her kind and selfless spirit. Carla will be greatly missed at City Hall but never forgotten in our thoughts. May peace be with her loved ones at this time of their loss."
