Denver Broncos Team Headlines: Should The Broncos Have Made More Trade Calls?
It's not surprising to see that the Denver Broncos are doing well this season without Peyton Manning or his backup from last year, Brock Osweiler. Trevor Siemian has led the team to a 6-2 record and a current share of the AFC West lead, but the season is far from over. There are certainly a few positions that could use some improvement, but the trade deadline passed without so much as a whisper of change for the Broncos as they begin the second half of the year.
Should more trade calls have been made by John Elway?
One would have thought that the Broncos would start looking around the league at different running backs who were on the trading block after starting running back C.J. Anderson was placed on IR due meniscus damage in his right knee.
Broncos' general manager John Elway did say the team was willing to listen to everything concerning potential trades and it seemed that he and director of player personnel, Matt Russell, were looking around. Maybe they were and maybe they placed some calls, but there were no moves made and the Broncos' roster is as it was before the trade deadline by and large.
Head coach Gary Kubiak said he was letting the higher ups work on those moves and steering clear of the noise that surrounds potential trades.
"I've got to stay focused on our football team and what we're doing," Kubiak said. "John and Matt are always involved with a lot of things. It's usually a lot of talk this time of year. I don't know how much movement there will be."
After all was said and done, the Broncos didn't make a move for another running back and they didn't do anything to improve their defensive line. A number of people in the know thought the Broncos would contact the Dallas Cowboys about a now healthy Darren McFadden, but that didn't happen either.
From here on out, the Broncos will have to be sure to keep their roster healthy and hope they have enough able-bodied players to make another Super Bowl run.
Wade Phillips doing alright after collision, but is sore
This past Sunday, Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips was on the sidelines and suffered a scary looking injury after being inadvertently hit by Chargers running back Melvin Gordon.
Phillips was removed from the sideline on a stretcher and was immediately transported to the hospital where he was eventually released later that night.
Now here we are just a couple of days later and Phillips is already back at work for the Broncos, but he did say that he was a bit "sore." Coach Kubiak wasn't surprised considering his defensive coordinator got "the heck knocked out of him," as Kubiak put it.
"He's sitting in the back of the meeting just now and has a big smile on his face,'' Kubiak said. "He's sore, but he's feeling good. He's back at it. I'm trying to get him to go home and rest a little bit today, but he doesn't want to do that. He's good. He's himself today."
