Man Died After Fall Into Big Thompson River
LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities have identified a man who fell into the Big Thompson River early Friday morning after falling and striking his head on the rocks.
Larimer County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Riverview RV Park on River Rim Road at about 2:15 a.m. Friday on a report that a man had fallen off an embankment.
Investigators said David Lee Howard, 55, of Federal Heights, was camping with his wife and relatives when he stumbled from the corner of the camper about 2 a.m. He fell down an eight-foot embankment into the river, struck his face on rocks and knocked himself out.
Howard was pulled from the Big Thompson River but was unresponsive. CPR was performed but it was unsuccessful.
Deputies say alcohol was a contributing factor in his death.
