CU Student Identified, Arrested In Credit Card Theft Case
BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - A University of Colorado sophomore accused of stealing credit cards faces a number of charges.
Police caught up with Javier Alexis Silva-Acosta after keeping a close eye on social media postings.
Silva-Acosta was seen using one of the cards he allegedly stole from a fellow student in a video university police posted on their Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages.
Within hours they received several tips that helped identify and locate Silva-Acosta.
Police arrested him without incident and said they found the stolen cards in his possession.
Silva-Acosta faces charges of criminal possession of a financial device, unauthorized use of a financial transaction device and criminal trespassing.
"Theft is our most frequent crime on campus and it's often preventable," CU-Boulder Police Chief Joe Roy said in a prepared statement posted along with details about the arrest. "We will continue to vigorously pursue anyone who victimizes members of our campus community."
