First CSP Trooper Who Died In The Line Of Duty Honored With Memorial Sign

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Colorado State Patrol officials honored its first officer killed in the line of duty more than 75 years ago on Friday.

Deputy Supervisor Arnold Gulzow died in 1941 after a car hit his motorcycle. He was directing traffic at Red Rocks.

"On June 22, 1941, Gulzow was riding a motorcycle and passing stopped traffic when an automobile suddenly made a left turn in front of him. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital and died on June 26, 1941, due to the severity of his injuries," the agency said in a news release.

On Friday, officers unveiled a new sign in honor of Gulzow near where the crash happened near Interstate 70 and Jefferson County Road 93.
