Colorado Voter Turnout Lower Than 2013

DENVER (AP) - State results show just over 1.2 million people voted this year in Colorado's election Tuesday.

The Colorado Secretary of State's Office released the tally Thursday. The turnout was lower than the previous odd-year election in 2013, when nearly 1.4 million people voted.

That year, voters considered two statewide ballot questions. One to increase taxes by nearly $1 billion for schools, and another to impose taxes on marijuana sales. The marijuana taxes passed, but the school taxes did not.

This year, voters had only one statewide ballot question. Voters approved allowing the state to retain $66 million in recreational marijuana taxes raised last year.
