Colorado Flooding Forecast Improves But Yampa Still High

DENVER (AP) -- The forecast for flooding in some Colorado rivers has improved slightly, but at least one is still expected to rise above flood stage as the state's record mountain snowfall melts.

Aldis Strautins (AL'-dis STRAW'-tins) of the National Weather Service says the Yampa River in northwest Colorado will likely exceed flood stage at several locations.

He says the amount of water expected in the river has dropped slightly but it will still be above flood stage.

Mountain snow depths are averaging 247 percent of normal statewide, and at least one monitoring site set records both for the depth of the snow and the amount of water it contained.

The Colorado Water Conservation Board says the rivers causing the most concern include the Elk, Colorado and North Platte along with the Yampa.
