Colorado car wash company to pay more than $1 million in restitution in membership fee settlement

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser's office has reached a settlement with the owner of Cobblestone Car Wash in an investigation into unfair membership practices.

Cobblestone operates over 40 locations across the state where customers can sign up for monthly memberships or pay per service.

The AG's office began investigating the company after receiving complaints that Cobblestone made it difficult for customers to cancel their monthly memberships. More than 40,000 customers did not receive receipts for their purchases, Weiser said, making the subscription terms difficult to find and potentially locking them into the auto-renewal service.

Weiser's office also said that, between August 2022 and February 2025, 30,000 Coloradans also experienced an increase in their Cobblestone membership fees without notice.

Under the settlement agreement, Cobblestone will notify users at least 25 days in advance of any fee increase. The agreement also requires the company to make it easier for subscribers to cancel.

"Members will now be able to cancel with a one-step online cancellation link on Cobblestone's website. Additionally, consumers may call 877-516-5377 to reach the Claims Administrator," Weiser's office shared.

Cobblestone must also pay more than $1.3 million in restitution to more than 70,000 affected customers. That's in addition to the $253,406 refunded to 4,000 customers during the investigation and $20,000 for costs related to the investigation.
