City Council Waits Before Raising Rates At Rec Centers

DENVER (CBS4) - Members of the Denver City Council want to wait before signing off on higher fees at city recreation centers.

The original request by Denver Parks and Recreation was to double or nearly triple fees at some centers. But Tuesday a council committee asked the department to take another look and suggested raising fees for adults while offering free memberships to children.

"I don't want to see kids in low income areas to pay three times as much as they do now. Kids ought to be free," Councilman Doug Linkhart said.

Parks and Rec is expected to report back to the committee in one week. The committee will then decide whether or not to send the fee proposal to the full city council.
