Broncos Find A Little More Offense, Beat Lions 24-12
DETROIT (CBS4/AP) - The Denver Broncos beat the Detroit Lions 24-12 at Ford Field in Detroit to remain unbeaten at 3-0.
After an unproductive third quarter the Broncos' offensive woes continued going into the fourth quarter.
But the defense was once again stellar and former Colorado State standout Shaquil Barrett recovered a Matthew Stafford fumble midway through the quarter. The Lions challenged the play but the fumble was upheld.
The Broncos weren't able to find the end zone but padded their lead 17-12 on a Brian McManus 48-yard field goal.
On the next Lions' drive David Bruton intercepted Matthew Stafford at midfield after Stafford and the Lions had been moving the ball efficiently. Two plays later Peyton Manning completed a 34-yard pass to Emmanuel Sanders to get the Broncos in the red zone and set up an 11-yard pass to tight end Owen Daniels for a touchdown with under three minutes left in the game.
Notes: Peyton Manning became the second player to complete 6,000 passes in the NFL. Manning reached the mark with a 5-yard pass to Jordan Norwood in the third quarter Sunday night. Only Brett Favre (6,300) has more completions than Manning, who reached the 6,000 mark with his 23rd completion Sunday.
