Broncos And Browns Tied Up At 23, Heading To Overtime
CLEVELAND (CBS4/The Sports Xchange) - The Broncos offense showed no signs of improving to begin the fourth quarter with the exception of running back Ronnie Hillman.
Hillman was able to run for more than 100 yards after three quarters but couldn't find the end zone.
Brandon McManus drilled a 39-yard field goal at the beginning of the fourth quarter to make it 17-7.
On the Browns' first drive of the fourth quarter Josh McCown took advantage of Malik Jackson's offsides call and connected with Travis Benjamin on a 47-yard pass. McCown then once again connected with tight end Gary Barnidge on a touchdown to bring the Browns within three -- 17-14.
Then disaster struck with just more than eight minutes left in the game when Peyton Manning threw a pick six to Karlos Dansby. The Browns failed on a two-point conversion.
It's the most pick-sixes Manning has thrown since 2008.
The Broncos wasted no time answering, however, with a Manning to Emmanuel Sanders 75-yard touchdown pass to make it 23-20. It was the first touchdown in 27 offensive drives which ended the longest streak in NFL.
With just over six minutes left in the game Corey Nelson suffered an injury and had to leave the game making the linebacker corps thin with DeMarcus Ware and Shane Ray already injured.
The Browns managed to tie the game at 23 and were driving with under a minute left in the game when David Bruton picked off Josh McCown. The Broncos nearly had a break on a long Manning to Sanders pass, but it was eventually ruled incomplete.
