Despite being recognized as one of the healthiest foods out there, oatmeal is surprisingly lacking in many people's diets. It reduces blood pressure and cholesterol and, of course, helps to control weight. But it is often omitted from people's favorite breakfasts lists.

Maybe that's because many mistakenly think of oatmeal as a bland and boring option. Not so! There are dozens of different ways oatmeal can be made, with a variety of sweet, healthy and tempting ingredients. And it's versatile -- oatmeal is a favorite flavor for cookies, ice cream and other treats.

If you want to discover why oatmeal should move to the top of your favorite breakfast foods, visit these local restaurants for a taste of what you've been passing over on the menu all these years.
