4 Colorado Mail Processing Centers Spared
DENVER (AP) -- The U.S. Postal Service is sparing four mail processing centers in Colorado that had been slated to close.
The Postal Service said in February that centers in Alamosa, Colorado Springs, Durango and Salida (suh-LY'-duh) would close as part of a broader plan to consolidate or close facilities around the country. That would have affected about 270 employees in Colorado.
Members of Congress urged the U.S. Postal Service to hold off on its cost-cutting plan until they could pass postal overhaul legislation. But on Thursday, the nearly bankrupt agency said it was moving forward.
Sen. Mark Udall, D-Colo., said no Colorado mail processing centers are on the updated list of centers that will close.
