The woman and two men apparently were squatting in a vacant two-story building in the 3400 block of West Armitage Avenue, when a fire started in the second-floor apartments around 11:40 p.m. Thursday.
Firefighters were called to the home at 1555 W. Devon Av. around 2 p.m., and found smoke and fire coming from two sides of the house. A family member told firefighters a child was trapped inside the house, and crews rushed in to try to find him, but they could not reach him in time.
